March 11, 2010 - "The Association of Community Mental Health Authorities of Illinois is proud to honor Representative David Leitch as recipient of our 2010 Legislator of the Year Award," stated ACMHAI Director Cheryl Ramirez. "Representative Leitch has been a long standing advocate in the General Assembly for people with mental illness, substance abuse disorders, and developmental disabilities. We want to recognize his leadership with this award."
As a member of the House Human Services Appropriations Committee, as well as Republican spokesperson of the Disability Services Committee, Representative Leitch has assisted ACMHAI with many legislative initiatives. "Representative Leitch is a true champion for the vulnerable population we service. We admire his tenacity and tireless advocacy for community-based care," said Ramirez.
"I am proud to be honored by the Association of Community Mental Helath Authorities of Illinois. As an advocate for families and people dealing with mental illness, substance abuse disorders, and developmental disabilities it is easy for me to bring this message to my colleagues in the House and it is easy to work with groups who serve as such a great resource, like ACMHAI," Representative Leitch replied.
