May 4, 2009 - "The Arc of Illinois is proud to honor Representative David Leitch as The Arc Legislator of the Year," stated Arc President Jacki Neil Boss. "Representative Leitch has been a long standing leader in the General Assembly for community services for infants, children, and adults with developmental disabilities. We want to recognize his leadership with this award."
"As the Republican spokesperson on the House Disability Services Committee, Representative Leitch has assisted The Arc on many important legislative initiatives," said Tony Paulauski, Executive Director of The Arc of Illinois. "Most recently Representative Leitch passed a major community funding bill that would move 1,000 individuals off the waiting list and grant a $1.00 per hour raise for direct care staff! He is always there when we need him."
Charlotte Cronin, Executive Director of the Family Support Network and a parent, said, "People with significant disabilities and their families face challenges that are almost impossible for them to describe and for others to understand. Representative Leitch has recognized our struggles. He has been and continues to be our champion as we advocate to fix our broken system. I am so proud and thankful to be able to call him my State Representative."
"I am proud to be honored by The Arc of Illinois and the Family Support Network. As an advocate for families and people with disabilities it is easy for me to bring this message to my colleagues in the House and it is easy to work with people like Tony and Charlotte," Representative Leitch replied.
The Arc of Illinois is an active proponent of services and supports that provide inclusion in public education, employment, recreation, and leisure and community living opportunities.
